BJC Hospice Expressive Therapy for Children (A Path To Healing)
Expressive therapy helps children with life-limiting illnesses and their families express and cope with experiences, thoughts and emotions. Using various therapeutic activities including art, music, play, writing and storytelling, the expressive therapy program: • Determines the child’s emotional, social and psychological functioning • Uncovers feelings or conflicts that the child or sibling is having difficulty verbalizing • Provides an appropriate outlet for expressing feelings • Develops a supportive, trusting and therapeutic relationship • Uses imagery as an aid in healing • Assesses and explores death awareness • Assists the bereaved family work through the painful process of healing • Allows the patient and family to gain some relief from physical or emotional stress BJC Hospice is member of the BJC Home Care Services family and a service of BJC HealthCare.
