Art Therapy Drawing Through Meditation (edited version)

May 09th, 2010 | Category: art therapy courses

this is a relaxation and drawing exercise to enable you to be able to produce art in an automated thoughtless state, with some truely beautiful acompanying visuals, definately worth giving a go. it was an exercise constructed as part of a 24 hour art therapy course at leeds metropolitan university.

Do I need a degree in Art to become an Art teacher?

April 16th, 2010 | Category: art therapy activities

Hi everyone, I’ve asked questions on here and found people to be so helpful. I’m 32 and have just completed an MA in Creative Arts Therapy(main focus was Drama, but the medium is very broad..used a lot of art activities such as puppetry, pottery, and drawing/imaging and I’ve also taken workshops in Art therapy) in the Uk. I’ve a liberal Arts degree in English, Sociology and Politics. I also have a higher diploma in Drama Education and Tefl. I’ve been in Education for five years, working as a one to one tutor with autistic children, and have also taught Drama and English as a foreign language. My goal is to teach a subject I’m passionate about, which has always been art but I got sidetracked. My query is can I do an MA in Art education or would I need an undergrad in Art or an Art related degree? I intend to return and study in the States in order to do so. I’m sorry that I rambled around the question, and appreciate any advice..

Amazing Art

March 13th, 2010 | Category: art therapy courses

A film about the Disabled Avant-Garde’s (Katherine Araniello and Aaron WIlliamson) Charity Art Therapy Classes.

AMAZING ART

A film by the Disabled Avant-Garde

Despite being appallingly disadvantaged by their tragic circumstances, against all odds known to historical record, the Disabled Avant-Garde have developed their artistic skills to such a pitch that they are able to sell their amazing art at fashionable art fairs for decent prices.
Follow the DAG to their art therapy drawing and pottery classes and see how ready made jam was invented!
Marvel as the punters flock to the DAGs stall in Hoxton, loading themselves high with purchases of limited edition artworks and of course, pausing to stroke their little doggie!
All the money was in a good cause to fund an ongoing process of art therapy for the artists themselves!

A satire on the aesthetics of commercial art and the low expectations of disabled people as conceptualist art-makers, Amazing Art is a sly mockumentary complete with patronising voiceover commentary (by Penny Pepper).
