Art Therapy: How to Change the World to a Happy Place with Bright Colorful Crayons and Love
BabyZ lost her dog Katie and was sad. She asked her dad where would her dog go. DaddooX told her that Katie is going to a beautiful happy place, and suggested they draw it together. So they did. With lots of pretty crayons and smiles. And BabyZ was happy again, and felt better knowing her dog was somewhere colorful and fun. DaddooX taught her that when we’re sad we can visualize what we want in our hearts and where we want to be in our lives, and put ourselves back on the path to our happiness and our dreams.

The Samburu tribe of Northern Kenya is an isolated tribe presently suffering a devastating drought. Their lives are consumed in the pursuit of water and pasture. Much of Samburu District has had no rain since the beginning of 2008. Many families have responded by moving to where they can get water and pasture, which is becoming less and less. The animals are not only the Samburu livelihood but are seen by the pastoralists as a sign of wealth. Samburu children who attend school are forced to drop in order to be with their nomadic families.
A handicapped child born into a Samburu family is considered a liability and is usually left behind when the family moves. In the dusty outpost town of Maralal, a residential school for these children, the Samburu Handicapped Educational and Rehabilitation Program (SHERP) struggles to survive. It was my privilege to help bring a change to these children’s lives through art, We used puppets, music, art, and laughter to help them expess what is locked deep inside. ART the best medicine, the universal language.
